NIA court finds chief of Manipur rebel group UNLF guilty and sentences him to 10 years in prison
The Special Court also sent 17 others from the outfit to jail for seven to eight years.
A Special Court in Guwahati on Wednesday found the chief of United National Liberation Front of Manipur guilty under sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act of the Indian Penal Code, reported the Hindustan Times. The National Investigation Agency court sentenced Raj Kumar Meghan along with 17 others to seven to ten years of jail.
Meghan and one Joy Singh have been sent to prison for ten years, while the other accused have got between seven and eight years of imprisonment, according to a statement released by the agency after the verdict. The cases were filed in 2010 and the agency had accused the rebels of criminal conspiracy, terror acts and waging war against the government of India.
The other convicts include Th Herojit Singh, Sougaijam Rakesh Singh, Oinam Somorjit Singh, Wayenbam Noren Singh, Naba Kumar Singh, Kh Jeeten Singh, Sinam Gune Singh, Mutun Ibohal Singh, KM Chingakham Bambem Chanu, Londhoni Devi, Moniton Singha, Ningombam Dilip Singh, M Joy Singh, N Bomi Singh, Y Brajabidhu Singh and A Ibomcha Singh
