Retired high court judge SN Dhingra, who heads the panel looking into Robert Vadra's land deals in Haryana, was on Friday given till August 31 to file a report on the matter, which was due on Thursday. He had sought more time to submit the report on the matter the previous day.

The one-man panel is investigating irregularities in granting Vadra land development licences in Gurugram villages during the earlier Congress government rule in Haryana. Dhingra said the report was delayed as more information had come to light, adding that he had received a number of documents related to the issue that required further investigation.

The Congress has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of bribing Dhingra to find party president Sonia Gandhi's son-in-law guilty. Former Haryana minister Ajay Yadav accused the BJP of bribery and the panel of wrongfully indicting Vadra, while former chief minister Bhupinder Hooda asked the governor to revoke the inquiry.

On Thursday, Vadra had dismissed the allegations against him and said he would always be "used for political gains". He had bought a 3.5-acre plot in Gurugram, then Gurgaon, for Rs 7.5 crore in 2008 and sold it for Rs 58 crore to real estate company DLF.

DLF and Vadra have both denied allegations of wrongdoing in the case. Hooda has also been investigated for allegedly providing some private companies, such as Vadra's Sky Light Hospitality Ltd, undue advantages. Vadra recently received a notice from the Enforcement Directorate for his reported involvement in a land deal in Bikaner.
