Kishor Darda, the brother of former Congress MP Vijay Darda, was arrested on Monday in connection with a case of serial molestation at a school run by their family’s trust, the Jawaharlal Darda Education Society. Kishor Darda, the secretary of the trust, came under policy scrutiny after parents at Yavatmal Public School launched a protest against two teachers accused of sexually abusing girls in the kindergarten and primary school classes.

According to the police, Darda, who is also the chairperson of the school’s management committee, was picked up at Nagpur airport and produced before a local court. He was charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and remanded in police custody till Tuesday, PTI reported. The two teachers, Yash Borundiya and Amol Kshirsagar were arrested on June 29, and the school’s principal Jacob Das was arrested on July 2.

The parents, who have alleged that the school’s management has been trying to hush up the incidents, were lathi charged during their protest on Monday. The police told The Hindu they had to resort to the heavy-handed tactics after some “miscreants” had joined the protest and created trouble.

The Darda family has denied all allegations of a cover-up, and dismissed the case as a political conspiracy.
