Rape remark: Salman Khan fails to appear before NCW again, sends response via his legal team
The commission said it is examining the document, and will decide on its next steps afterwards.
Bollywood actor Salman Khan ignored for the second time a summons by the National Commission for Women, which had sent him notices for making a comment that trivialised rape. The NCW released a statement on Friday saying, "It may be noted that today Mr Khan or his legal team has not appeared before the Commission." However, it said that Khan's lawyers had sent in a written response and they were examining it. Khan had also failed to appear before the Maharashtra Women's Commission on Thursday, despite being summoned twice.
NCW chairperson Lalitha Kumaramangalam did not disclose the commissions plan of action against the actor.
On June 20, Khan was describing his experience of a tough shoot for his recent film Sultan, when he said it had made him feel “like a raped woman”. The comment was widely decried as being insensitive to the experiences of sexual assault survivors. Khan did not publicly react to the furore his remark caused, but his father Salim Khan said, "Undoubtedly what Salman said is wrong, the simili, example and the context. The intention was not wrong."
