Delhi CM's ex-Principal Secretary Rajendra Kumar sent to one-day judicial custody in graft case
The court ordered all seven accused to be produced before a special CBI court on Monday for hearing on the investigation agency's demand for police remand.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's former Principal Secretary Rajendra Kumar was on Sunday sent to a day of judicial custody along with six others in connection with a corruption case filed against him, reported PTI. The other accused include Rajendra Kumar's aide Ashok Kumar, Deputy Secretary in the Chief Minister’s office Tarun Sharma, owners of a private firm, Sandeep Kumar and Dinesh Kumar Gupta, and RS Kaushik and GK Nanda, present and former managing directors of a Public Sector Unit.
The accused will be produced before a special CBI court on Monday, where a petition filed by the investigation agency will seek three days of police custody for them. “The police custody order for five accused [arrested earlier] was passed by the designated CBI court. The application for the extension of their police custody and another application for the police custody of two accused who were arrested yesterday [Saturday] will be considered by the designated court itself. Meanwhile, all the seven accused be sent to one-day judicial custody,” said Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Shunali Gupta.
In December 2015, the CBI filed a case against Kumar accusing him of abusing his position in the government by "favouring a particular firm in getting tenders of Delhi government departments". The irregularities are related to an alleged computer purchase scandal of Rs 50 crore. The CBI had conducted a search at Kumar's office in Delhi Secretariat last year and reportedly found around Rs 13 lakh in cash, including foreign currency, in his house. Kumar and four others were arrested on June 4.
