Indian aid worker Judith D'Souza rescued in Afghanistan, says Sushma Swaraj
She was working with the Aga Khan Foundation when she was kidnapped in Kabul on June 9.
External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Saturday said Indian aid worker Judith D'Souza has been rescued in Afghanistan, more than a month after she was kidnapped in Kabul, reported The Hindu. D’Souza was working with the Aga Khan Foundation when she was abducted on June 9. She was scheduled to return to her home in Kolkata the same week.
On Twitter, Swaraj said, “I am happy to inform you that Judith D'souza has been rescued.” She is believed to be with embassy officials and is expected to return to the country soon. She was kidnapped by gunmen while she was on her way to a friends place. Her driver and her bodyguard were let off by the men. According to the English daily, investigators interrogated the driver and the bodyguard who led them to D'Souza. She was abducted for ransom and not by Talibans, as was initially believed.
