Wrestling body head alleges conspiracy after Narsingh Yadav's sparring partner too fails doping test
The president of the Wrestling Federation of India said Yadav, who was to represent India at the Olympics, has not got a fair deal.
Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh (pictured above), the president of the Wrestling Federation of India, came out strongly in support of wrestler Narsingh Pancham Yadav on Monday, after the 26-year-old Rio-bound wrestler was found guilty of a doping violation on Saturday. This followed after news emerged on Monday that Yadav's sparring partner and roommate Sandeep Tulsi Yadav had also tested positive.
"He [Narsingh] is innocent. He is the victim of a conspiracy,"said Singh, according to NDTV. "Narsingh has not got a fair deal. We will try [and make sure] that he gets to compete in Rio."
The assistant secretary of the WFI, Vinod Tomar also pointed to Singh's room-mate Yadav testing positive for the same substance and added that it lent credence to the theory that there was a conspiracy against Yadav.
"Narisingh's roommate at the camp has also tested positive for the same substance, so it clearly looks to be foul play," said Tomar. "Both the wrestlers were consuming the same supplements as they were roommates. This raises suspicion."
