The Supreme Court on Friday rejected a plea seeking Governor's Rule in Kashmir, and asked Solicitor General Ranjit Kumar to submit a status report on the ground situation in the Valley, reported IANS. The court was hearing a petition filed by J&K National Panthers Party on July 22.

Chief Justice Thakur said, "Situation at the grounds changes in hours, these are not the issues that could be judicially dealt with." Citing paralysis of administration, the petitioners had sought Governor's Rule referring to Section 93 of the Jammu and Kashmir Constitution. The law makes provision for suspension of government and putting the state under the control of the governor.

On the same day, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh spoke to Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti over the phone and discussed the ongoing unrest in the region, reported PTI. The details of the conversation are not known yet.

The local administration reimposed curfews and restriction in four district –Anantnag, Kulgam, Pulwama and Shopian – to foil the plan of a protest march called by separatist leaders on Friday. At least 44 people have died and over 2,000 people have been injured in agitations across Kashmir since Hizbul Mujahideen chief Burhan Wani was killed on July 8.
