One injured in bomb blast near BSF camp in Imphal, another explosion near Manipur university
Reports said the authorities believe it was the handiwork of local militants of the region.
A seven-year-old girl was injured after an Improvised Explosive Device went off close to the Border Security Forces camp in Moriangpurel village in Imphal, Manipur, on Wednesday morning, ANI reported. Injured Tinoi has been taken to hospital. Another blast was reported two hours later outside Manipur university, though further details are yet to emerge.
According to reports, authorities believe that the first blast was the handiwork of local militants of the region. The attack comes a day after Irom Sharmila broke her 16-year-long hunger strike against the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act.
Meanwhile, a joint team of the Manipur Police and 25 Assam Rifles recovered an IED, weighing 3 kg, while frisking passengers and checking bus near Tendongyan village in Imphal West district, reported The Indian Express. Additional Superintendent of Police Th Vikramjit said the target of this recovered bomb was the security forces.
On Monday, two BSF jawans were injured when three bombs exploded at Kangpokpi in Manipur's Senapati district. No organisation or individual has claimed responsibility for the attack yet. Security have been beefed up and extra forces have been deployed in Manipur alert ahead of Independence Day.
