Sakshi Malik lost 9-2 to Valeria Koblova of Russia in the quarter-final of the 58 kg freestyle wrestling event at the Rio Olympics. But, the Indian wrestler is still in contention for a medal through repechage.

Neither players looked to take the initiative in the game early on and the the Indian went behind in the game as she was penalised for infringement. She was unable to tackle her opponent Koblova within seconds and went one point behind. The Russian was able to fend off Malik's attacks in the last part of the first period and had the lead in the first period.

Malik went for her opponent's legs at the start of the second period. Close to the four-minute mark, she took the lead with two points on the board, once again, taking her opponent out of the ring. Seconds later, Koblova came back in the game in style with a deadly move around her opponent's neck, using two legs in the process.
