Former Delhi Social Welfare Minister Sandeep Kumar was arrested for rape on Saturday, after a woman seen with him in the sex tape that got him suspended from the party just hours before alleged that he had assaulted her. The woman said that the incident had taken place a year ago, when she had gone to him for help with her ration card. According to her, he drugged her, took her to a room and assaulted her. Kumar was removed from his post on August 31, after the video surfaced, showing Kumar in a "comprising position" with two women.

The Delhi Police said a case under various Indian Penal Code sections, including rape and poisoning, has been filed. He has also been booked under the Information Technology Act for taping the incident and publishing it.

Kumar had denied the charges, saying he was targeted because he is a Dalit. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday had taken the decision to suspend him from the party after receiving a copy of the tape, which is being investigated by a special team of the Delhi Police Crime Branch.
