Congress demands special session of Parliament to declare Pakistan a terror state
It accused the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government of being lenient towards Islamabad despite the Uri attack.
The Congress on Monday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government of being lenient towards Islamabad despite the militant attack in Kashmir’s Uri on September 18. It demanded that a special session of Parliament be convened to declare Pakistan a terrorist state, reported PTI. Party spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi (pictured above) said, “We believe extreme situation demands extreme decisions. By now, Pakistan should have been declared a terrorist state. We demand near absolute economic sanctions on Pakistan.”
Singhvi took a dig at Narendra Modi’s speech to party leaders in Kozhikode on Sunday, where he talked about empowering minorities, and said it “demonstrated strategic ambiguity", reported the Hindustan Times. He added, “India is looking weak, having failed to deliver meaty blows." The spokesperson said people want “concrete actions against the rogue state.” The Congress also demanded withdrawal of the "most favoured nation" status to Pakistan.
Singhvi also brought up the issue of granting asylum to Baloch leader Brahamdagh Bugti. He said there was no point in delaying the asylum request of Bugti. "If we have reasons not to grant, reject it but otherwise, why keep it hanging?” Singhvi said. The Baloch leader had approached the Indian embassy in Geneva and filed papers to seek Indian citizenship.
