Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Leader of the Opposition YS Jaganmohan Reddy have sought to implicate each other, a day after Naidu said that one person from Hyderabad had declared Rs 10,000 crore under the Income Declaration Scheme. A total of Rs 13,000 crore was disclosed under the scheme in the city. The two have also written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the matter, according to PTI.

On Wednesday, Naidu had said, "Is it possible for a businessman to declare such huge a amount," in an apparent reference to Reddy’s business holdings. He had also asked the Centre to de-monetise the Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes to curb corruption. Meanwhile, Reddy, in his letter to Modi, questioned how Naidu was privy to this information as the central government had promised not to reveal details of those who declare their undisclosed income under the scheme, according to NDTV.

Reddy said, "The person declared could have been a 'benami' of Chandrababu Naidu...It is also ironical that under Naidu, Andhra Pradesh has been ranked as the most corrupt state in the country by the National Council for Applied Economic Research." The Opposition leader has also called for the entire list of those who made declarations under the scheme to be made public.

The figure quoted by the two politicians represents a little less than one-sixth of the total Rs 65,250 crore declared across the country under the IDS. However, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had said that the amount was tentative and could increase after the final tabulation. He had also maintained that the government will not disclose the names of those who made use of the scheme. "We won't give any specific information on tax declarants," Jaitley had said.
