Actor Robert Vaughn died in New York on Friday at the age of 83. The Oscar-nominated actor had suffered a brief illness after he was diagnosed with leukaemia, his manager Matthew Sullivan said. “Mr Vaughn passed away with his family around him,” he said.

The American was best known for playing secret agent Napoleon Solo in the popular 1960s TV series The Man from U.N.C.L.E. He was also known for roles in The Magnificent Seven and TV shows Hustle and Coronation Street.
