At least a dozen passengers were injured after four coaches of the Bhatinda-Jodhpur train derailed in Rajasthan’s Sriganganagar district on Saturday. Additional Superintendent of Police Surendra Singh told PTI that the injured were being administered primary treatment at a nearby hospital.

The accident took place around 2 am near Rajiyasar village. Local residents helped with rescue operations before the police reached the spot, said Station House Officer of Rajiyasar Police Station Ganesh Kumar. Besides the 12 injured travellers, the other passengers left for their destination by road. Inspector General Vipin K Pandey, Collector Gyanaram and other railway officials later visited the accident site.

The Bikaner-Suratgarh railway track has been blocked and restoration work is underway, officials said. The mishap has hampered train schedules, as well – several trains, including the Jammutavi Express and Kota Sriganganagar, have been diverted, while the Jaipur-Suratgarh train, Lalgarh-Abohar passenger express and the Delhi-Bikaner Express have been cancelled.
