Clashes erupted around Anantnag in Jammu and Kashmir after the funeral of Zahid Ahmed Bhat, the truck conductor who died after being burnt by a mob in Udhampur on October 9. Bhat had suffered 60% burns after his truck was hit by a petrol bomb, following the discovery of the carcasses of three cows in the vehicle.

After Bhat’s death on Sunday, curfew-like restrictions were imposed in areas around eight police stations as tension gripped the Kashmir Valley on Monday. Multiple factions of separatist leaders had called for a shutdown in the Valley, leading to several of them being put under house arrest.

Movement restrictions were eased in Anantnag by the authorities for Bhat's funeral on Monday, before incidents of stone-pelting at police personnel were reported around the area. The police used tear gas shells to disperse the protesters, but the clashes continued, reported the Press Trust of India. A police official said that nobody was hurt in the clashes.
