A meeting between Board of Control for Cricket in India president Shashank Manohar and his Pakistan counterpart Shahryar Khan in Mumbai has been postponed following protests by Shiv Sena activists in the city on Monday. Around a hundred Shiv Sena workers stormed into the Mumbai headquarters of the BCCI, shouting slogans against Pakistan.

Later in the day, ten people were arrestedfor the protests, but were let out on bail, Press Trust of India reported. Maharshtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the BJP did not support ally Shiv Sena's stand, and that he would provide security if matches against Pakistan were to be held in Mumbai.

Manohar and Khan were to discuss the planning of a bilateral series in December. The Shiv Sena activists told Manohar that the BCCI should not resume ties with Pakistan as the country sponsored terrorism.

Senior BCCI official Rajiv Shukla said that Manohar and Khan are scheduled to meet again in Delhi on Tuesday. He added, "In no way, the dialogue will be stopped. BCCI has never compromised with national interests." International Cricket Council president and former Pakistan cricketer Zaheer Abbas condemned the protests, saying that "politics and cricket are two different things".

The Shiv Sena has frequently protested against cultural and sporting ties between India and Pakistan. Earlier this month, it forced the cancellation of two concerts featuring Pakistani ghazal singer Ghulam Ali in Mumbai and Pune. The party workers also threw ink on former Bharatiya Janata Party leader Sudheendra Kulkarni last Monday for organising the launch of former Pakistan foreign minister Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri's book in Mumbai.
