The high-decibel genre of thrash metal has gained followers across the planet, and India is no exception. Black t-shirted outfits around the country are grinding out the stuff, and some of it is even worth listening to.

The Down Troddence
Nagavalli

The Down Troddence are a folk-thrash band from Kerala who have now relocated to Bangalore. The band released their debut album recently and it is a powerful document that mixes heavy thrash with beautiful folk stylings, making it some of the most innovative metal in the country today.

Chaos
Game

Chaos are another thrash group from Kerala, but their folk influences are less audible. Instead, their sound is reminiscent of the Bay area thrash movement that gave birth to several international metal giants. This song is about corruption (or some such thing) that makes them really angry.

Devoid
Pandemonium Is Now

Devoid are a Mumbai-band who issued one of the more notable thrash/death metal releases in 2013. Their extended play The Invasion is a blistering example of the chops they have been honing for years.

Mortar
Ground Reality

Kolkata-based Mortar like to refer to themselves as “old school thrash”. Mortar used to be considered one of the most promising Indian metal bands until they recently decided to get a new vocalist. Maybe there is something to that whole "old is better" debate.

Theorized
Genetic Variations

Theorized are one of Bangalore's more inventive thrash metal bands. Though their technical skill is laudable, it is really their fresh take on the genre that makes them invigorating to listen to.
