A new party to uphold the 'dignity' of Telugus
N Kiran Kumar Reddy, who quit the Congress, floated a new party ahead of the elections on the promise of upholding the "dignity and prestige" of the Telugu people. The policies and programmes of  the new party will be announced shortly at a public meeting to be held at Rajahmundry in coastal Andhra Pradesh on March 12. This announcement comes days after Reddy resigned from the Congress as a measure of protest of the bifurcation of the state for the creation of Telangana.

Sedition charges dropped against Kashmiri students
The Uttar Pradesh government withdrew sedition charges hours after they were slapped on a group of over 60 Kashmiri students of a Meerut university, who had cheered for Pakistan over India in a cricket match on Sunday. The decision came after a huge public outcry, with Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah speaking personally with his UP counterpart Akhilesh Yadav.

Kejriwal booked in Gujarat for violating code of conduct
Arvind Kejriwal was booked by the Gujarat police, for using loud speakers and microphones in Gandhidham, Kutch, without prior permission. This was a violation of the election code of conduct. Earlier the Election Commission has also remarked that Kejriwal had not taken police permission for his road show.

President's Rule in Delhi is justified, says Centre
The Centre filed an affidavit in response to the petition by the Aam Aadmi Party on Thursday, justifying President’s rule in Delhi. The affidavit claimed that its decision not to dissolve the Delhi Assembly  is in the public interest because it would not be possible to hold elections again in a short span of time. It added that the political situation was still fluid and the possibility of other parties claim to form the government could not be ruled out.

Crimea leaves Ukraine, joins Russia; sanctions ordered by Obama
After a month-long tense situation in Eastern Europe, Ukraine heads for a break up as the lawmakers in Crimea have unanimously declared that they will join Russia. This decision will be put to vote to the voters in ten days. Obama has reciprocated by unleashing the first real sanctions against Russia.
