Arvind Kejriwal announces Varanasi candidature

After visiting Varanasi, being bombarded by eggs and ink, and bathing in the Ganga, Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal announced on Tuesday that he would be running against Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Narendra Modi from the constituency. Declaring his candidature, the outspoken leader referred to Modi as an "agent" of industrial houses.

Srinivasan must go if probe is to be transparent, says SC

The Supreme Court on Tuesday said it was "nauseating" that N Srinivasan was continuing as president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India since it was obvious that there could not be a fair investigation into charges of betting and spot-fixing against his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan and others with him in office. The court asked the BCCI  to remove Srinivasan to ensure that cricket remains clean.

Delhi Police arrest Indian Mujahideen de facto chief

A Delhi Police special cell claimed on Tuesday that it had arrested Indian Mujahideen de facto chief and recruiting agent Tehsin Akhtar. Akhtar, 23, was allegedly heading the terror outfit’s operations after the arrest of the previous IM India chief, Yasin Bhatkal, in August. Recently, the police also arrested Zia-ur-Rehman alias Waqas, an alleged Pakistani member of the outfit, from Ajmer in Rajasthan along with three other suspects.

Teesta Setalvad faces arrest

An Ahmedabad sessions court judge denied anticipatory bail to activist Teesta Setalvad and her associates on charges that she allegedly embezzled funds collected to build a museum about communal violence. The activist is likely to face arrest and trial in Ahmedabad.

Sahara proposes new method to return investors' money

On Tuesday, Sahara presented a new proposal regarding the return of Rs 20,000 crore of investors' money in order to secure the release of company head Subrata Roy along with two other directors who are  in judicial custody. A bench of justices KS Radhakrishnan and JS Khehar refused to take the proposal on record and asked the group to file the document in the registry, making clear that the court will consider the proposal after this.
