New bill allows minors to be tried as adults for heinous crimes
The cabinet cleared the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Bill, 2014, on Wednesday. The bill gives powers to the Juvenile Justice Board to decide whether a minor above 16 years of age involved in heinous crimes such as rape should be tried in an adult court.

Government sacks governor it sent from Gujarat to Mizoram
The government sacked Mizoram governor Kamla Beniwal, just two months before her tenure was to end. Beniwal had many run-ins with Narendra Modi when he was the Gujarat chief minister and she was the state's governor. A month ago, the government transferred Beniwal, 87, from Gujarat to Mizoram. Soon after the BJP formed the government, some governors were forced to resign. Three envoys are also in the firing line.

Cabinet raises FDI limit for defence, opens up Railways
The cabinet approved raising the ceiling on foreign direct investment in defence from 26 per cent to 49 per cent and allowed up to 100 per cent overseas capital in railway infrastructure projects such as high-speed train systems, suburban corridors and a dedicated freight line,  which are to be executed as public-private partnerships.

Nearly 45,000 Indians in Ebola-hit nations, could bring virus home
There are about 44,700 Indians in different countries affected by Ebola, a deadly virus that has claimed 932 lives so far,  health minister Harsh Vardhan said on Wednesday. The bulk are the nearly 40,000 Indians in Nigeria. The Republic of Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone account for the rest. The Indians in Liberia include CRPF personnel deployed for UN peacekeeping operations.

Putin orders retaliatory sanctions over Ukraine
Russian President Vladimir Putin has banned or curbed agricultural imports from countries that have imposed sanctions on Russia over the crisis in Ukraine. He said the ban and curbs would apply to food imports and would be in force for a year. Meanwhile, renewed fighting in eastern Ukraine has forced officials to suspend a search for the remains of victims of the crashed flight MH17.
