Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi admitted that his government was unable to check corruption. Manjhi said that he had paid a bribe to have his inflated electricity bill reduced. The state chief of the Bharatiya Janata Party Mangal Pandey said that the situation has reached a point of no return. "If Manjhi as minister had to pay a bribe, then one can imagine the fate of the general public," he said.
Uttar Pradesh: Mayawati rejects Mulayam’s offer for an alliance
Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Maywati on Wednesday rejected the suggestion that her party should enter a “grand alliance” with the Samajwadi Party to fight upcoming by-elections in Uttar Pradesh against the Bharitiya Janata Party. In fact, she claimed that the SP and BJP had covertly joined hands. The idea of such a “grand alliance” was first proposed by Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav.
Maharashtra: ABVP forces college to withdraw invitation for Dalit activist
Mumbai's St Xaviers College retracted its invitation to Dalit activist and singer Sheetal Sathe for a panel discussion on caste at its annual cultural festival. The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, a student body affiliated to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, warned to both students and the management against inviting Sathe. They claimed that the Dalit activist was a Naxal sympathiser and said that rescinding the invitation was in “national interest”.
Delhi: CISF audit finds shortfall in airport security management on eve of I-Day
An internal assessment conducted by the Central Industrial Security Force, which is responsible for security at all airports in India, found lapses in the arrangements in Terminal 1D of Delhi’s domestic airport. The report found defective X-Ray machines and shortfalls in CCTV cameras.
Andhra Pradesh: Naidu will frame 'start-up policy'
In a bid to support small technology firms, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu will formulate India’s first “start-up” policy. This is in line with Naidu’s attempt to construct a Start-Up Village at the IT Incubation Tower in Vishakhapatnam. Naidu plans to create 5,000 such start-ups over the next five years.
