India returned with only 57 medals at the Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea, this weekend, compared to the 65 in the last edition, but there were many satisfying performances to savour. Mary Kom won her boxing event, and then then there was the hockey gold, India’s first since 1998.

The women did India proud in the 4x400m relay event, when they won their fourth successive gold medal on the trot. Then there was a rare medal in swimming with Sandeep Sejwal winning a bronze medal and the walking medal from Khusbir Kaur.

India finished 8th on the medal tally with 11 gold medals while China retained their superiority by breaking the 150-gold barrier to end with 151 gold medals, clearly ahead of South Korea, who made it to second place with 79 medals.
