On Friday, Pankaj Advani outplayed former champion Peter Gilchrist of Singapore to win the 150 up points format World billiards championship final. This is the 29-year-old Bangalore sportsman's 11 world title.

Advani has won three different world titles this year: the IBSF World 6-Red snooker title, the World Team billiards title and now the World billiards championship (points format).

Despite its generally poor showing in global sports, India has stellar record in billiards. Over the decades, Michael Ferreira, Geet Sethi and Advani have all held the world title, all of them winning multiple times.

India's excellence in the sport was established in the 1958, when Wilson Jones of Pune won the world title for the first time, when it was held at the Great Eastern Hotel in Kolkata. He repeated the feat in 1964 in New Zealand.

Here is a documentary about Jones, made in 1971.
