Maharashtra: MLA’s anti-Gujrati remarks causes embarrassment
 Nitesh Rane, the Congress legislator from coastal Kankavli, sparked off a controversy on Thursday by making sarcastic remarks against Mumbai's Gujarati community on social media. "Wanna take part in Swacha Bharat abhiyan n start from mumbai!! Wanna start cleaning up all the Marathi hating gujjus from there once for all," he said in a tweet. The state division of the party immediately distanced itself from the remarks. "Whatever statements he may have made are his personal view," said state Congress chief Manikrao Thakre. "We have nothing to do with it."

Maharashtra: Shiv Sena wants one more Union berth to support BJP
The Shiv Sena has decided to wait until Sunday for the Bhartiya Janata Party to offer it a union cabinet berth in the upcoming reshuffle before announcing its decision to support its former ally in Maharashtra. The parties are still ironing out the details of a possible tie-up, after the BJP fell short of a majority in the recent assembly elections. The Sena's new demand came after state Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis shot down Shiv Sena’s claim for the deputy chief minister's seat.

UP and Bihar: Lalu, Nitish, Gowda and Mulayam mull anti-BJP front
The scattered groups of the Janata grouping of the 1970s may come together again on a common platform, a move that was indicated by a meeting of several parties at Samajwadi Party Chief Mulayam Singh’s residence on Thursday. The meeting was attended by Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad, HD Deve Gowda of Janata Dal (Secular) and Dushyant Chautala of Indian National Lok Dal. "This meeting decided on our unity," Nitish Kumar, chief of Janata Dal (United) is quoted as saying by the Times of India.  "In future, we can move from unity to merger into one party."

New Delhi: Dead pig found in Okhla mosque
A slaughtered pig was found in a mosque of Okhla, a Muslim-majority area in South Delhi. The residents of the colony were outraged at first but solidarity prevailed as Hindus and Muslims in the area filed a police complaint together.  Muslim residents put together a peace committee to prevent any incitement in the community. "It seems some group is trying to provoke riots in the area,” Amanatullah, a resident told India Today. 

Maharashtra: Woman who sold mangalsutra to build toilet honoured
A woman from Saikheda Village in Washim district of Maharashtra was honoured by the state's newly appointed Rural Development Minister Pankaja Munde on Thursday for building toilet by selling her mangalsutra. “Toilet is a basic necessity, compared to ornaments,” Sangita Awhale is quoted by The Hindu as saying.
