Maharashtra: Bombay HC dismisses Chavan’s plea 
The Bombay High Court on Wednesday dismissed senior Congress leader Ashok Chavan’s appeal to delete his name from the Adarsh Housing Society scam relating to the sale of flats in an illegal building in South Mumbai. Chavan had filed the petition to recall an order passed by Justice ML Tahaliyani refusing the Crime Branch Investigation permission to drop his name from the case. The latest order means that Chavan can be tried under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The Adarsh scam came to light in November 2010 and had forced Chavan to resign as chief minister of Maharashtra. He was recently appointed the Maharashtra Congress chief.

West Bengal: CBI raids TMC MP’s house
The Central Bureau of Investigation on Wednesday conducted raids at 43 locations associated with the Rose Valley Group across the country, including the residence of Trinamool Congress Member of Parliament Tapas Paul in connection to the Saradha scam. Paul was a board member of the group’s two companies ‒ Rose Valley Marketing India Ltd and Idea Projects Ltd ‒ for two financial years from 2009. “Apart from offices, searches are being conducted at the residential premises of Rose Valley Group chairman Gautam Kundu, managing director Shibamoy Dutta and then directors of the group including Abir Kundu, Ramlal Goswami, Ashok Kumar Saha and present Lok Sabha MP Tapas Paul,” a CBI official said. In February, Minister of State for Finance Jayant Sinha had written to the Rajya Sabha alleging that Saradha and Rose Valley group had raised Rs 12,740 crore illegally.

Madhya Pradesh: Rajya Sabha members initiate motion to impeach HC judge
Fifty eight members of the Rajya Sabha have submitted a petition on Wednesday to Chairman Hamid Ansari to initiate impeachment proceedings against Madhya Pradesh High Court judge SK Gangele for allegedly sexual harassing a former Additional District and Sessions Judge in Gwalior. The Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court had initiated an inquiry after the complaint from the victim in August. After the victim questioned the fairness of the inquiry in the apex court, the Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh was asked to set up a fresh panel to investigate the allegations. The Karnataka Chief Justice assigned to the case said that the allegations warranted deeper inquiry.

Jammu & Kashmir: Unhappy with portfolio, Lone refuses to join cabinet
People’s Conference leader Sajjad Lone is unhappy with the Science & Technology and Animal Husbandry portfolio allocated to him in the new Jammu & Kashmir coalition government and refused to take charge on Wednesday. The former separatist leader won the seat from the north Kashmir Handwara constituency.

Assam: State urges centre to continue Special Category status
The Assam assembly on Wednesday unanimously passed a resolution requesting the central government to continue the Special Category status to the state. Assam wants to ensure that it receives a greater share of Central funding. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Rockybul Hussain said that the formula by which the Centre allocates 90% of the funds for some schemes is not being followed in five key programmes. “The state expresses deep concern at the above departure from the entitled Special Category status and requests the Central Government to ensure that the pattern of funding shall be either 100 per cent central share or on the principle of 90:10,” he said.
