Chhattisgarh: Dome comes apart due to thunderstorm
At least 50 people, mostly policemen were injured after a dome-shaped pandal built for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally in Naya Raipur collapsed on Friday . "While the work was underway, suddenly the weather changed and a severe storm hit the place, damaging a portion of the dome which fell on the police personnel and workers present," said Inspector General of Police GP Singh. Modi’s rally has been cancelled due to the incident. Modi was scheduled to inaugurate an Indian Institute of Technology campus and lay foundation stone for construction of affordable housing  in Naya Raipur. However, he will now head to Naxal affected Dantewada district on Saturday to evaluate development initiatives in the region.

Gujarat: DSP granted bail in Ishrat Jahan case
Deputy Superintendent of Police NK Amin, the only accused person actually in jail for his role in the Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case, was granted bail on Saturday on grounds of deteriorating health. The special Central Bureau of Investigation court accepted his plea as Amin is suffering from prostate cancer and keeping in mind that co-accused in the case, DG Vanzara, PP Pandey were also granted bail in February. Amin was DSP of Ahmedabad special branch when the Gujarat police in 2004 killed a Mumbai college student named Ishrat Jahan and three men, claiming that they were on a mission to assassinate Narendra Modi, who was then chief minister of Gujarat.

Jammu and Kashmir: Army foils infiltration bid
The army's Barasingha Battalion foiled an infiltration bid across the Line of Control in Mendhar sector of Poonch District on Friday. "An army patrol headed by an officer was fired upon 300 meters on our side of the LoC [Line of Control] at 8.50 am on Friday,” said army spokesperson Colonel Manish Mehta. "Alert troops immediately retaliated ensuring successful elimination of the infiltrator." The army suspects there were three or four militants trying to cross the border. One AK rifle, four magazines, 28 rounds, two hand grenades and one GPS were recovered along with the body of the militant killed in the encounter.

West Bengal: Two civilians killed in MiG-27 crash
Two civilians were killed after a MiG-27 aircraft of the Indian Air Force crashed in Alipurduar district of West Bengal on Friday evening. The plane took off from Hasimara airbase at 8:20 pm and crashed 10 minutes later. The pilot ejected safely before the crash. A court of inquiry has been initiated to assess the cause of the crash, according to a Defence Ministry official.

Nagaland: Canny induction leaves assembly without opposition 
Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang of the Naga People's Front on Friday inducted the leader of the Congress Legislature Party into his ministry,  leaving the state assembly without any opposition party. The Bharatiya Janata Party already a partner in the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland, led by Zeliang's Naga People's Front. Zeliang appointed three ministers and nine parliamentary secretaries on Friday but they are yet to receive the portfolios. The dream to have a government without opposition came true and all parties now jointly need to work on resolving the Naga political issues, said Zeliang. The Naga People's Front party has 37 seats in the 60-member assembly.
