Karnataka: Assets are disproportionate by 76%, says state
The Karnataka High Court may have used a flawed method of calculation while acquitting Jaylalithaa in the disproportionate assets case, claimed public prosecutor BV Acharya on Tuesday. In his judgment on Monday, Justice CR Kumaraswamy observed that the prosecution had mixed up the assets owned by the firm of the former Tamil Nadu chief minister’s with her personal wealth. Acharya claimed that the judge counted a significant percentage of Jayalalithaa's own money as borrowings, decreasing the value of her assets immensely. According to Acharya's calculations, the judge miscalculated by Rs 13 crore, an amount that would increase the Tamil Nadu leader's disproportionate assets to 76% as opposed to the 8.12% recorded in court.
