Aam Aadmi Party officials on Sunday said that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is likely to announce a referendum on full statehood for Delhi during the party’s Jan Sabha due to be held on Monday. The Jan Sabha will take place a day ahead of the two-day emergency session of the state’s assembly called to discuss a notification issued by the Union Home Ministry, which said that the postings and transfers of bureaucrats fell under the jurisdiction of the state’s Lieutenant-Governor. Claiming that the Narendra Modi-led Central government was “allergic” to Kejriwal, state Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia accused it of wanting to bulldoze the AAP government’s agenda. The row broke out after Kejriwal voiced his opposition to the appointment of Shakuntala Gamlin as acting state Chief Secretary last week and accused Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung of trying to take over the administration of the state.

India to have water scarcity by 2025, report says
India will become a water-scarce country by 2025 due to a mismatch between the demand and supply of water, warned a report issued by consultancy firm EA Water. The report said that nearly 70% of the country’s irrigation requirements and 80% of its domestic water consumption came from groundwater, which was depleting rapidly. It further said that the demand for water would continue to increase due to factors such as rising household incomes and the growth of the service and industrial sectors. However, it added the sector would also see an investment of up to $13 billion from foreign countries such as Canada, Israel, the United States and China.
