A case has been registered against CISF subinspector SS Choudhary in connection with the death of a jawan at Kozhikode's International airport following clashes between the security personnel and employees of the Airport Authority of India on Wednesday. The death was caused by a bullet from Chaudhary's gun. The brawl broke out after Chaudhury insisted on inspecting a bag being carried into a sensitive area by a member of the fire and rescue staff. Cases have also been registered against 100 other CISF personnel based on complaints from Airport Authority of India.
Uttar Pradesh: 17 killed, 30 injured in truck accident
Twelve women and five children were killed, while 30 people were injured in a collision between two tractor-trolleys and a speeding truck in the Malawan area. Additional Superintendent of Police R P Gupta said that the two vehicles were headed to Pura village for Bhagawat puja. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has announced financial assistance of Rs 50,000 each for the injured and Rs two lakh for the familes of the dead.
Andhra Pradesh: Four injured in factory blast
An explosion at the Bharat Dynamics Limited factory in Hyderabad injured three workers, while another was critically hurt while disposing off waste explosive materials, said Santoshnagar Assistant Commissioner of Police Srinivas. The accident took place after inflammable materials were burnt using the incorrect type of fuse, causing a small explosion, he said.
Assam: CM reiterates emphasis on welfare schemes
Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi emphasised his commitment to "pro-poor and pro-common man" schemes despite the new policy of allocating funds to the state by the National Democratic Alliance government. "Whatever situation may arise for Centre's reluctance in giving funds, the state government will continue the implementation of all the existing welfare schemes," he said.
Bihar: Exams cancelled due to mass cheating
Samastipur Women’s College on Saturday cancelled examinations conducted by the Mithila University after TV channels aired images of rampant cheating during the BA part II examination. "The June 12 examination of general knowledge paper of BA part II at Samastipur Womens College has been cancelled by the University and fresh examination of the paper will be held at Darbhanga on June 29,” said Ajit Kumar Singh, the Registrar of Lalit Narayan Mishra Mithila University at Darbhanga. Singh added the decision to cancel the paper was taken at a meeting called by Vice Chancellor Saket Kushwaha last night. The Registrar said a three-member investigation team has also been constituted into the incident and will be submitting a report in three days.
