ART Winter by Julian Opie At Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum
This exhibition comprises a set of 75 prints by British contemporary artist Julian Opie, who is known for his graphic style and use of technology in art. The prints show the French countryside, which Opie toured on a particularly pretty day. Tickets for Indians are priced at Rs 10 per head for adults and Rs 5 per head for children below the age of 13, and tickets for foreigners are priced at Rs 100 per head for adults and Rs 50 per head for children below the age of 13.

On Friday, August 14, Utkarsh Patel, who teaches comparative mythology at the University of Mumbai, will speak about the Gond version of the Ramayana as part of a lecture series conducted by the Talking Myths Project.

Free FILM Documentaries on Kashmir at Films Division
The documentaries are all by Raja Shabir Khan, who was born and raised in Kashmir. Silence, a short film he made in 2006, is about his family. Shepherds of Paradise (2012) follows the cattle herder Gafoor as he drives his flock from Kashmir to Jammu to graze. On the way he must deal with difficult terrain and military checkpoints. And Angels of Troubled Paradise (2012) hinges on Aadil, a young lad who sells tear gas shells to scrap dealers to earn some money. Occasionally he finds shells that still contain explosives. A two-day showcase of feminist cinema organised by Godrej India Culture Lab and the feminist website The Ladies Finger! The festival will feature ten documentaries including Nishtha Jain’s Gulabi Gang, a profile of a group of pink sari-clad women vigilantes in Bundelkhand, and Sherna Dastur’s Manjuben Truck Driver, a portrait of butch Gujarati woman truck driver, as well as discussions with some of the filmmakers. Lower Parel restaurant The Bombay Canteen will celebrate Independence Day this Saturday, August 15 by hosting a fundraising lunch. The meal will be served on banana leaves and guests will get to order unlimited food from a special menu of rajma; saag and pumpkin daal; paneer bhurji; maska pao; and kheer. Diners can pay for the lunch as they please. All the proceeds from the event will be donated to Teach For India, a project that trains people to teach underprivileged children.
