What was the food like 4,000 years ago in the Indus Valley Civilisation? Soity Banerjee, a writer, embarked on a mission to find out after coming across an online article about archaeological and scientific research into food habits in Haryana’s Farmana, an Indus Valley dig site. She attempted to recreate an ancient dish in her own kitchen – a difficult task in the absence of a recipe. In the process, Banerjee hoped to learn something new about the food we eat today and about lost utensils among other things.
This episode of The Intersection tracks Banerjee’s journey back in time and tries to glean some kitchen tips from the past.
