The Indian Navy is set to host an International Fleet Review from February 4-8 off the coast of Visakhapatnam, where President Pranab Mukherjee will review 75 frontline ships and submarines from nearly 50 countries.
The display is aimed at showcasing the Indian Navy’s preparedness, high morale and discipline.
Ships of the Indian Coast Guard and Mercantile Marine will also be participating. The event will also involve a flypast by the air arm of the navy and a daring display by the elite Marine Commandos.
Around 70 helicopters, including hawk jet fighters, will also show their prowess over the Bay of Bengal during the event.
The President, as the Supreme Commander of the armed forces, conducts the ceremonial inspection of the fleet once during his tenure. The last International Fleet Review was held off Mumbai in 2001.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Manohar Parikar, Andhra Pradesh Governor ESL Narasimham, and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will be among those attending the review.
In the build-up to the main event on Saturday, the Eastern Command has been conducting rehearsals. Here's a glimpse at the display.
