FILM Asian Women’s Film Festival at India International Centre
The twelfth edition of the festival organised by the International Association of Women in Radio and Television will showcase the work of women filmmakers from Bangladesh, Israel, Japan, Myanmar, The Philippines and other Asian countries. The line-up includes films such as Philippine director Ilang-Ilang Quijano’s 2015 documentary Daughters of Cordillera about how mining in the Cordillera region of The Philippines affects indigenous people, and Israeli filmmaker Nili Tal’s 2015 documentary Etched in My Body about a woman and her daughters who were trapped in a marriage to a cult leader. The Indian documentaries and experimental films that will be screened at the festival include An Old Dog’s Diary, the 2015 award-winning short film on Indian painter Francis Newton Souza by Shai Heredia and Shumona Goel, and Till then the Roads Carry Her, Uzma Falak’s 2015 documentary on the role of Kashmiri women in the valley’s resistance movement. TALKS & WORKSHOPS The Coalition
The third edition of the annual forum for gamers, comedians, writers, musicians and artists will have panel discussions on topics like tour organisation and alternate revenue sources featuring comedians such as Tanmay Bhat, Kanan Gill and Abish Mathew, and the role of the talent manager in charting an artist’s career featuring managers Sumit Bothra, Stephen Budd and Laura Taylor. FILM I View World Film Festival
The festival, which focuses on human rights, gender issues and contemporary culture, will screen a range of Indian and international films and documentaries such as Mira Nair’s 2006 film The Namesake about a Bengali family’s experience as immigrants in the US and Jacques Audiard’s 2015 movie Dheepan, in which three Sri Lankan Tamil refugees try to rebuild their lives in France. MUSIC THEATRE The Wajood Repertory at Habitat World
An evening of storytelling put together by cultural organisation Sursagar Society of the Delhi Gharana. Nadeem Shah will narrate a tale titled Kahani Pandit Ki in the style of dastangoi, and singer Vasut Iqbal Khan will recite Rudaad-E-Shireen, a feminist musical based on the bandishes of thirteenth century Sufi poet Hazrat Ameer Khusro. PHOTOGRAPHY Graciela Iturbide at Instituto Cervantes
The institute is displaying two sets of works by the renowned Mexican photographer: Naturatta and El Baño de Frida Kahlo (Frida’s Bathroom). The first is a series of images taken at the Botanical Garden of Oaxaca in 1998 and 1999; the second is on the bathroom of the artist Frida Kahlo.
