DANCE Red Bull BC One India Cypher at Lands End Amphitheatre
Sixteen b-boys from across the country will showcase their skills for a spot in the World Finals of the Red Bull BC One, an international breakdancing competition that will be held in Japan in November this year. The India finale will also feature performances by city-residing rapper Divine aka Vivian Fernandes and V Company, a hip hop supercrew made up of winners of various reality TV dance and talent competitions. DJ Uri Solanki and rapper Bobkat aka Bob Omulo, both of who are based in Mumbai, will provide the beats and handle MC duties respectively, while global b-boying stars Differ and Hong 10 from South Korea and Menno from the Netherlands will be the judges. FILM Soy Cuba at the Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum
This edition of Movies at the Museum, a monthly series curated by filmmaker Avijit Mukul Kishore and architect Rohan Shivkumar, will be a screening of Georgian director Mikhail Kalatozov’s 1964 Spanish feature Soy Cuba (I Am Cuba), with English subtitles. Set in the days before the Cuban revolution of 1953, the film is a suite of four vignettes, each of which hinges on a central character. They are: Maria, a poor woman living in Havana; Pedro, a sugarcane farmer; Enrique, a student of Havana University and Mariano, a farmer who joins the revolution. Mustansir Dalvi, who teaches architecture at the JJ School of Architecture, will introduce the movie. There is no entry fee.

Artist Prabhakar Pachpute’s solo show of wall drawings and sculpture titled no, it wasn’t the locust cloud deals with mining in India and initiatives such as afforestation and collective farming by a group of poets in his hometown Chandrapur. Tickets are priced at Rs 20 per person for Indians and Rs 500 per person for foreign nationals. There is no entry fee for children studying in school up to class 12.

PHOTOGRAPHY The Deepak Puri Collection: Legacy of Photojournalism at Tarq
This exhibition, put together by Bangalore gallery Tasveer and the Museum of Art and Photography (MAP), an institution being built in that city, comprises 50 images by 30 photographers. The works have been selected from The Deepak Puri Collection: Legacy of Photojournalism, a set of over 150 images donated to MAP by Puri, the former photo editor of Time-Life News Service’s south Asia bureau. The photos on display include those by such major lensmen as Raghu Rai and Prashant Panjiar from India, Sebastião Salgado from Brazil and James Nachtwey from the US.
