The 2016 edition of the Father’s Day had everything one has come to expect the annual celebration of fatherhood and male parenting. There were black and white photos on Facebook timelines, Reddit posts, and commemorative tweets from everyone from the Indian Police Service Association to the Bank of Baroda.
Google too marked the occasion with a doodle on its search engine home page. The image shows a pair of men’s shoes sitting on a doormat next to a pair of baby sneakers. There was even a Baap (father) bot doing the rounds on Sunday. Launched on June 17 by virtual assistant app Haptik, the bot comes up with Indian dad-style repartees and Bollywood gyaan.
Companies used the day to push their mushy videos.
In the midst of the soppy stories, social media cranked up the #dadmiration to another level.
