Steering people’s unwavering attention from social-media favourites pandas and elephants for a day, zoos and aquariums in the US are sharing adorable pictures of unconventional screen-scorchers on Twitter.
Giving each other a run for their money, eccentric looking aquatic and terrestrial animals made the cut, with #UnexpectedlyCute trending for much of the day. The sprawling list was a mix of harmless creepy-crawlies and deadly creatures with a deceiving screen presence. Wide-eyed owl, endangered salamander, prickly dogfish, possums and the notorious stingray were part of the line-up.
