If you are single or in a relationship, dating as we know it has changed in this pandemic. We can no longer go out and meet a cute stranger for drinks or plan a picnic at your favorite spot or go for long, romantic walks with our significant other.

But just because you are stuck at home doesn’t mean your dating life needs to be stuck too. After all, the most important (and fun) thing is spending time together and sharing new experiences. We know a lot of people have been chatting online for a long time now so here are some things you can do with your match to keep the spark alive - even when you can’t meet IRL.

1. Plan movie nights: As we can’t go to the theatres anymore, watching a movie together is a super casual and easy date. Why not get on a video call at the same time so you can see your date’s reactions during the film. Hate when someone talks during the movie? Well, you can always press pause!

2. Show off your cooking skills: Plan a menu that both of you can cook in your respective kitchens. Set a time. Get dressed. Switch off the lights. Light up the candles and turn on the romance. It’s a date! (Can’t cook? No need to try something elaborate and fancy. Good ol’ Aglio Olio pasta will always come to your rescue.)

3. Dance party: There’s nothing that can replace actual dancing (can you remember the last time you went dancing!?), but we’ve found a jugaad! Share your favorite playlist with your match and do a virtual dance party. Checking in on their music taste would be useful before things get serious.

4. No more small talk: First dates can be tough and awkward. But not anymore! Use the ‘Question Game’ feature on Bumble to get to know your date better. This feature allows you to ask each other icebreaker questions and is a helpful way to have more meaningful conversations. You don’t have to worry about keeping your conversations interesting because we’ve got you covered.

5. Take it slow: One of the silver linings of virtual dating is that you get to take things slow. Take this time to get to know each other. Share links of articles and stories that you care about. Discuss issues that matter to you. Learn to engage with those who have a different point of view. Be respectful. Be kind.

Happy virtual dating!
