The daily commute to work in India is riddled with difficulties, getting worse with each passing year. Blame it on population explosion, lack of infrastructure and maintenance, bad urban planning or even the weather, traveling to work every day is as undesirable as the realization of the beginning of a new week on every Sunday night.

Office commute platform MoveInSync’s report in 2019 stated that Indians spend more time in daily office commute than people in most countries- a staggering 2 hours on the road every day. The pandemic brought in some relief, albeit temporary, as work from home became the norm. However, with things gradually moving back to normalcy, it will soon be time to hit the roads again.

To further understand the state of commuting in India, let’s take the factor of comfort into consideration. Citroën India’s latest research reveals that 92% of Indians find their drive to work as uncomfortable. Additionally, the research reveals that 55% feel uncomfortable due to honking, noise and pollution.

Conducted across 10 cities with 1801 respondents of diverse ages and genders, the survey has many insights into a day in the life of the Indian commuter. A consequence of uncomfortable driving manifests in 49% Indians (either as a passenger or a driver) experiencing physical strains such as regular back ache and neck ache. 71% respondents even accepted that sitting in the rear seat of a car makes them feel congested, while 70% car owners in India attribute discomfort to lack of space and storage, especially on a long drive.

Even when it comes to car ownership, 81% prioritize comfort while buying a new car. 59% Indians consider suspension, comfortable seating, ability to access features as the most important features in a car. Citroën is set to launch the New Citroën C5 Aircross SUV in India in Q1 2021. Since 1919, the brand has kept automotive comfort its top priority.
