That’s it from us today! Do join us tomorrow at 9 pm as India take on Argentina in their final match of the 2022-23 FIH Pro League season.
FT, India 2-3 Netherlands, Gurjant Singh: We missed some three-four chances which we should have taken. We played well in patches. We need to play well tomorrow.
FT, India 2-3 Netherlands: The Netherlands hang on and a displeased Craig Fulton strides onto the pitch and has a chat with Manpreet. The Indian probably not happy with the umpiring today. The Netherlands complete the double over India.
Q4, India 2-3 Netherlands: The injection is to Rohidas. His drag flick is blocked by the first rusher. India review asking for a foot. Unsuccessful one. The Dutch have 12 seconds to hang on.
Q4, India 2-3 Netherlands: Good referral from India and they get a PC with 22 second left. Can they equalise?
Q4, India 2-3 Netherlands: No advice possible so no PC for India. 22 seconds left in the match. The Dutch take a long time to release the ball and India are given a free hit. India review for a PC as they believe the ball had been played after the whistle had been blown.
Q4, India 2-3 Netherlands: Final charge by India with less than a minute remaining. Gurjant shoots but is blocked by a Dutch stick. He reviews it for a back-stick. Don’t think there might be a clear angle to decide that.
Q4, India 2-3 Netherlands: Five minutes left on the clock as India counter. However, Lalit goes behind instead of pressing into the circle allowing the Netherlands to get all their players behind the ball. The Dutch doing well to slow things down as much as they can. Two minutes left and India take off Pathak to have 11 outfield players.
Q4, India 2-3 Netherlands: Brilliant save from Meijer! Jarmanpreet slaps in a cross from the right into the circle. The ball comes to Abhishek at the far post who takes a couple of touches before shooting. Meijer does well to narrow the angle and make the save. Moments later, Mandeep gets a heavy touch while to trying to deflect a long pass into goal.
Q4, India 2-3 Netherlands: Ooof Sanjay cops a blow to his head. The ball goes high off Hoedemakers who then tries to get to it but ends up swiping Sanjay on the side of the head. The whistle had already gone for dangerous play but because he went for the ball, the Dutchman is shown a yellow card and the Netherlands are down to 10 for five minutes.
Q4, India 2-3 Netherlands: Van der Horst with some good work to win a PC for the Dutch. Burkhardt’s drag-flick is calmly booted away by Pathak
End of Q3, India 1-3 Netherlands: The Dutch put India under the cosh towards the end of the quarter after a cagey period. India would feel hard done by after seeing Jarmanpreet’s goal early in the quarter being controversially ruled out.
Q3, India 1-3 Netherlands: Two in quick succession for the Netherlands! Sreejesh makes another good save from a PC. The ball goes to the right where Steijn van Heijningen plays the ball in. Tjep Hoedemakers squeezes the ball past Sreejesh.
Q3, India 1-2 Netherlands: Boris Burkhardt scores! That goal was all about Luke Dommershuijzen’s pass to bisect the Indian defence. Burkhardt, in acres of space, finds the bottom corner to give the home side the lead. A goal from nowhere after a cagey few minutes.
Q3, India 1-1 Netherlands: Goal chalked off for India! India win a PC. Amit reverses the injection to Jarmanpreet who slaps it into goal. The umpire refers it. After passing it, Rohidas was in the path of the first rusher. Even though he was never going to be able to block Jarmanpreet, the goal is ruled off for a block on the rusher. Bizarre call that.
Q3, India 1-1 Netherlands: India start on the front foot and Hardik plays a brilliant aerial to Abhishek who is unable to take it down.
HT, India 1-1 Netherlands, Craig Fulton: It’s good to get back into the game. We had some really good counters but not able to do anything from it. It has been a good test match and hopefully in the third and fourth quarters we can get some point.
HT, India 1-1 Netherlands: Another brilliant aerial ball into the circle. Abhishek makes space for himself and fires the ball at goal. Meijer makes a comfortable save at the near post. And that is the last action of the half.
Q2, India 1-1 Netherlands: Rohidas lets his guard down allowing Pepijn Reyenga to breeze into the circle from the left. India manage to defend at the post.
Q2, India 1-1 Netherlands: The Dutch are not pressing as intensely as they did in the first quarter. India doing well to charge down and making those crucial tackles in the circle.
Q2, India 1-1 Netherlands: Sumit takes a blow to his hand as he blocks Telgenkamp’s shot. Looks like he is bleeding and has to get off the field to get treatment.
Q2, India 1-1 Netherlands: India nearly take the lead twice within 30 seconds. First Abhishek is slipped through on goal. The forward pulls the trigger but Mol gets a vital stick in front of his shot. Moments later, Jarmanpreet has a crack from distance and Mandeep gets his stick on it but its flies over the top.
Q2, India 1-1 Netherlands: Sanjay scores for India! Superb aerial pass from Hardik from deep to Sanjay on the touchline. He takes it down beautifully, spins to protect the ball from Meijer and slips the ball from underneath the Dutch goalkeeper. A first senior goal for Sanjay
Q2, India 0-1 Netherlands: Hardik shows off his 3D skills as India break. He’s impeded illegally. A decent spell of possession for India now as the Dutch choose to sit deep for now.
End of Q1, India 0-1 Netherlands: India get a rare foray into the Dutch circle with Gurjant and Sukhjeet trying to create something. The latter ends up giving away a free out. And that is the end of the first quarter.
Q1, India 0-1 Netherlands: The Dutch had the ball in the back of the net with Telgenkamp finding the back off the net. The umpire chooses to review the goal and there is a Dutch back stick in the lead up the goal and the goal is chalked off.
Q1, India 0-1 Netherlands: Whenever they lose the ball, you’ll see at least six Dutch players pressing the Indian defence down. They win the ball and manage to win a penalty corner.
Q1, India 0-1 Netherlands: It has been all Netherlands so far with the Indian forwards barely getting any time on the ball. Sreejesh then comes up with a good save to deny Van der Horst.
Q1, India 0-1 Netherlands: Duco Telgenkamp gives Netherlands the lead! The ball is played from just inside the 23m line. It takes a deflection off an Indian stick and hits Thijs van Dam’s arm. The umpire plays advantage and Telgenkamp manages to squeeze the ball from underneath a diving Sreejesh.
Q1, India 0-0 Netherlands: The Dutch press forces India from attack all the way back to defence and they lose possession.
Q1, India 0-0 Netherlands: Amit Rohidas is in the first castle and his drag-flick is blocked illegally. The second time Dirk Meijer makes a good save.
Q1, India 0-0 Netherlands: Really good work from Jarmanpreet Singh there. Won the ball back in the Dutch third and then made his way into the circle to win the first PC of the match inside 80 seconds.
Q1, India 0-0 Netherlands: And off we go. With no Harmanpreet Singh today, the pressure will be more on the Indian forwards to score.
India vs Netherlands, Craig Fulton: (On facing Netherlands after their 2-7 loss to Australia) It’s not easy. Anytime a team loses, they can get back. We had a good result and we need to reset again
India vs Netherlands: No Harmanpreet Singh for India today as Hardik Singh leads in his stead. Simranjeet Singh and Selvam Karthi are also not in the squad. We would probably see Amit Rohidas and Sanjay on PC duty tonight in Harmanpreet’s absence.
