That’s it from us tonight! Do join us tomorrow at 4.45pm IST as the Indian men’s and women’s team face hosts Great Britain.
FT, India 1-3 Germany, Salima Tete: We were good at the start. But we were down after conceding the first goal. The first half was good but we let our level go down in the second half.
FT, India 1-3 Germany: India lost all the momentum in the second half after a good second quarter. Germany were relentless with their press and if not for Savita Punia, could have leaked half a dozen goals today.
Q4, India 1-3 Germany: With a minute left in the match, India finally come alive. Sunelita Toppo draws a fine save from Kubalski. Navneet Kaur then has a shot at goal but fires wide. And with that, the hooter goes off to signal the end of the match.
Q4, India 1-3 Germany: Udita gives away the ball cheaply and Germany pounce on the error. Strauss has all the time and space in the world to shoot but is denied once again by Savita Punia. It could have been much more worse for India had it not been for Savita in goal.
Q4, India 1-3 Germany: Vaishnavi Phalke limps off the field with what looks like a foot injury. Germany then win an easy PC. They go for the shot which flies off an Indian stick for a long corner.
Q4, India 1-3 Germany: Another PC for Germany and Savita and Udita combine well to deny Germany.
Q4, India 1-3 Germany: Quick free hit from Germany opens up the Indian defence with Nolte and Strauss bearing down on the Indian goal with just Ishika and Savita to beat. Nolte’s reverse shot hits Ishika’s foot and it will be a PC. India defend it well to keep it 1-3.
Q4, India 1-3 Germany: Navneet Kaur goes on a good run down the middle of the pitch managing to keep the ball from three Germans. Her pass is intercepted with Zimmermann then fending off a couple of Indian players to play out from the back.
Q4, India 1-3 Germany: Germany get the final quarter underway.
End of Q3, India 1-3 Germany: Germany not happy with a couple of decisions made by Singaporean umpire Cookie Tan. Having burned their review in the second quarter, they can only be frustrated with themselves. With 40 seconds left on the clock, Mahima Choudhary gets a green card. India will be down to 10 players for the rest of the quarter and for more than a minute of the fourth quarter.
Q3, India 1-3 Germany: Horn and Lorenz combine well once again. Horn, running down the right channel, cuts the ball back to Lorenz who slaps it first time at goal. It looked like Savita made the save but Germany ask for a review because they think it came off Nikki Pradhan’s foot. However, they do not have a review. Looked touch and go that.
Q3, India 1-3 Germany: Back to back PCs for India but neither Udita nor Deepika can find a way past first rusher Lena Micheel.
Q3, India 1-3 Germany: Lorenz scores! Back to back PCs for Germany. In the second one, Zimmermann reverses the ball to Lorenz who slaps the ball at goal. Navneet should have blocked it but it goes into goal off her leg.
Q3, India 1-2 Germany: That is the best save of the lot from Savita! Horn makes her way into the circle on the right and shoots. The ball takes a deflection and goes away from goal. Lorenz reacts quickly to collect the ball and smacks the ball. Savita with a stunning dive to turn the ball past the post.
Q3, India 1-2 Germany: Savita called into action and delivers. A long pass into the circle is deflected off an Indian stick to Nolte at the post. She scoops it at goal but Savita has her angles covered and makes the save.
Q3, India 1-2 Germany: India once again slow off the blocks allowing Germany to boss possession. They need to be more aggressive with their press.
Q3, India 1-2 Germany: Germany get the third quarter underway. Savita Punia is back in goal for India in the third quarter.
HT, India 1-2 Germany, Harendra Singh: That was what I was looking forward to in the game. We need to be better in defence so that we get space in the attack which is where we are good.
HT, India 1-2 Germany: India go into halftime trailing 1-2. Germany were the better side over both quarters scoring twice and having two further goal disallowed. India did give a good account of themselves in the second quarter. Deepika brought India back into the match with her 12th international goal and has looked threatening with her drag flicks.
Q2, India 1-2 Germany: Salima Tete wins India a PC with less than a minute to go. Deepika goes straight once again but Kubalski does better this time to save the attempt with her boot.
Q2, India 1-2 Germany: Germany have the ball in the back of the goal but it won’t count! In the PC, the injection went to Lorenz who swept it to Seline Oruz. The German slaps it past a diving Bichu. The umpire, however, rules it out as Oruz’s attempt did not hit the back board. Germany review unsuccessfully. According to the rules, unless it is a drag flick, the first shot in a penalty corner routine has to hit the back board at the base of the goal and not above it. Oruz’s attempt hit the net.
Q2, India 1-2 Germany: Lorenz and Nolte play a nice one-two on the left but Bichu denies Nolte the chance to shoot by charging out. A minute later, Lorenz wins her side another PC.
Q2, India 1-2 Germany: Germany snatch the lead back! They win a PC of their own. Sonja Zimmermann goes to the right of the goal. Bichu Devi is late to react even as Ishika Chaudhary can only watch the ball go into goal off her stick. Chaudhary should have done better there.
Q2, India 1-1 Germany: India level the score! A first PC of the match for India. Deepika with a superb drag flick straight down the middle. Kublaski should have saved it but can only divert in high into her own goal.
Q2, India 0-1 Germany: India inches away from levelling the score! Lovely move as Katariya nutmegs a German defender to find Deepika Soreng on the 23m line. The teenager sprints into the circle and fires the ball at goal. Nathalie Kubalski boots it away but only as far as Deepika. She shits the ball onto the other side before reverse hitting at goal. It flies agonisingly past the goal.
Q2, India 0-1 Germany: Salima Tete wins the ball in midfield and launches the attack. She combines with Navneet before the latter plays the ball into the circle. Katariya, however, cannot get on the end of the pass.
Q2, India 0-1 Germany: Germany are down to 10 players barely 30 seconds into the second quarter as Benedetta Wenzel is shown a green card. India almost capitalise immediately as Navneet Kaur moves down the right and plays the ball in front of goal. Vandana Katariya sneaks in front of her defender but cannot redirect the pass into goal.
End of Q1, India 0-1 Germany: Another nice save from Savita Punia. Kira Horn plays the ball in front of goal where Strauss gets ahead of her defender to smash it at goal. Punia is at the right place to make the save.
Q1, India 0-1 Germany: Germany take the lead! That goal was always coming. Charlotte Stappenhorst drives into the circle from the right and fires a shot across the face of goal into the side. Savita Punia had no chance of saving there.
Q1, India 0-0 Germany: Pieper once again fashions a good chance for Germany. She finds Hanna Granitzki in the circle who hits it goalwards. Savita comes out even as Strauss looked to scoop it into the net. The Indian keeper smothers the shot.
Q1, India 0-0 Germany: Cecile Pieper makes her way along the goalline from the right. She flicks the ball at goal but Savita makes a superb reactive save to deny the German.
Q1, India 0-0 Germany: Germany carve open the Indian defence like it is nothing with Lorenz sending Lisa Nolte through on goal. Savita Punia comes out of the goal to narrow down the angle. Nolte goes for the reverse hit and it bounces up, takes a touch off Punia and goes into goal. India review immediately. And it was the correct decision as Nolte’s shot had come off her back stick.
Q1, India 0-0 Germany: Germany win the first penalty corner of the match. India captain Salima Tete is off in a flash after the injection and blocks the drag flick before winning the free hit.
Q1, India 0-0 Germany: Germany get on the counter with captain Nike Lorenz leading the attack down the left. She spots the run of Sara Strauss down the middle and plays a very good ball. It needed Nikki Pradhan to stretch every sinew in her body to intercept the pass and put it behind.
India vs Germany: Like the men’s teams before them, India are in their alternate white and orange kit while Germany are in their all black kit. India will get us started in the first half.
India vs Germany, Harendra Singh: We are in a rebuilding phase. We have played well so far. It is a young side. The girls are enjoying and they are learning day by day. Germany is a good side. India loves to play against them because they are tactically good while we are skilful. It will be a good matchup.
India vs Germany: India are currently on a four-match losing run with their last win coming against Australia in February. Germany on the other hand, have won three of the four matches they have played so far this season. As has been the case in this European leg so far, India start as underdogs once again tonight.
Welcome back! The Indian women’s team will get their final leg of the Pro League season underway against Germany in London.
That’s it from us for now. We’ll be back later tonight at 9.30pm IST when the Indian women’s team takes on Germany in their Pro League match. See you then!
FT, India 3-0 Germany, player of the match Jarmanpreet Singh speaks: It was a very good match because Germany are a good team. We had a good structure. The tour has been going well. We’ll go home and prepare for the Paris Olympics.
FT, India 3-0 Germany: And the hooter goes off! India wrap up a clinical 3-0 win over Germany, their fifth win of the season. A very happy Craig Fulton leads the medley of high in the Indian dugout.
Q4, India 3-0 Germany: Ooh that was close from Germany. Bosserhoff shot at goal from left on the edge of the circle. The ball was going wide but Mazkour gets a touch which takes it away from Sreejesh. Fortunately for India, the ball flies wide off the far post.
Q4, India 3-0 Germany: Germany review and win another PC for an alleged foul by Harmanpreet. Peillat’s attempt comes back of an Indian foot. Take two. Peillat aims for the far corner. Jarmanpreet Singh incredibly flicks it back! Perfect leg glance shot in cricket that.
Q4, India 3-0 Germany: PC for Germany. The injection goes to Benedikt Schwarzhaupt who goes straight. Hartkopf tries to deflect the ball away from its intended path but Harmanpreet had run the play. He was at hand to smother it. The loose ball goes to Zwicker who scoops it past Sreejesh. Jarmanpreet is on the line to play it away.
Q4, India 3-0 Germany: Lovely run through the Indian half by Staib before he is fouled by Rohidas in the circle. Another PC for Germany. Peillat once again goes high which Sreejesh deals with comfortably. Elian Mazkour gets the loose ball but his reverse hit sails high over the goal.
Q4, India 3-0 Germany: Germany twice try hockey’s equivalent of a ‘Hail Mary play’ as they smack the ball from well outside the circle hoping a German stick can deflect into goal. Both times Sreejesh theatrically slides into cover his angles and watches the ball roll wide off his goal.
Q4, India 3-0 Germany: India are in the lead but expect Germany to up the ante in the fourth quarter. It will be a test of India’s defensive solidity in the final 15 minutes.
End of Q3, India 3-0 Germany: Germany end the quarter with three penalty corners but are unable to test Sreejesh in the goal. A very good quarter from India.
Q3, India 3-0 Germany: Gurjant Singh scores! Two quick goals from India and they are comfortably in the lead. Lovely team goal this one. They make their way from the halfway line down the right channel. Sanjay plays the ball to Jarmanpreet Singh on the goalline. The defender uses his body to keep the ball safe and flicks it back. Gurjant is at hand to scoop it past Stadler.
Q3, India 2-0 Germany: Sukhjeet Singh scores! What a goal from the Indian forward! He gets the ball on the wing, spots Abhishek’s run and plays a through pass. Abhishek uses his 3D skills along the goalline even as Sukhjeet makes his way into the circle. Abhishek lays it off to Sukhjeet who takes a touch before unleashing an unstoppable shot past Stadler!
Q3, India 1-0 Germany: Sreejesh saves once again. Strutthoff lets one fly from an angle. The shot loses all its sting as Kaufmann tried to play it onwards. Sreejesh smothers it but the ball squeezes behind him. Jugraj Singh is at hand to play it away.
Q3, India 1-0 Germany: A nice flowing move from India from one end to the other. Abhishek gets the ball near the halfway line and sprints ahead. Spots Shamsher Singh all alone on the left and finds him. He slaps it towards the front of goal but Bosserhoff deflects it behind.
Q3, India 1-0 Germany: Germany get us started in the second half. Hardik and Mandeep Singh looked like they had forced the ball off the German player. However, the umpire gives the free hit to Germany much to Mandeep’s chagrin.
HT, India 1-0 Germany: And that is the end of the half. A good half from India with PR Sreejesh pulling off some good saves to keep his sheet clean. India earned only one penalty corner in the half but Harmanpreet Singh made it count to give his side the lead.
Q2, India 1-0 Germany: Another superb save from Sreejesh to deny Germany! Kaufmann wins Germany their third PC of the match. Peillat goes for the left bottom corner but Sreejesh does a split and kicks the ball onto the post. Stunning reflexes and agility from Sreejesh.
Q2, India 1-0 Germany: Lovely 3D skill from Niklas Bosserhoff to get away from multiple Indian defenders in the circle. He then cuts it back for Hellwig but the German cannot get on the end of the ball. Deserved at least a shot on goal.
Q2, India 1-0 Germany: Germany draw a save from Sreejesh for the first time this quarter. Raphael Hartkopf gets the ball from deep and gets away from Jugraj Singh with a lovely turn before firing the ball at goal. It is not the most powerful shot and Sreejesh has no problems booting it away.
Q2, India 1-0 Germany: Good pressure from Mandeep Singh, Abhishek and Gurjant Singh (I think) to force the ball off Martin Swicker. Mandeep Singh has only one man to beat but loses the ball and Germany are able to come away with the ball.
Q2, India 1-0 Germany: India take the lead! A fast start from India to the quarter and they win their first PC of the match as Sukhjeet Singh draws a foul from Antheus Barry. Harmanpreet Singh aim for Alexander Stadler’s left but his flick takes a touch off Barry, who is the first rusher, and nutmegs Stadler. Super start to the quarter from India.
End of Q1, India 0-0 Germany: With time running down, Manpreet Singh lets one fly from well outside the circle hoping a teammate can get a touch on the ball. No one comes close to it as the ball rolls into goal.
Q1, India 0-0 Germany: Superb save from Sreejesh! Struthoff wins a PC off Harmanpreet Singh after a good run down the left. Peillat goes for power this time and fires it towards the top corner. Sreejesh is quick to react and punches it clear.
Q1, India 0-0 Germany: India break on the counter. Araijeet Singh Hundal gets the ball on the edge of the circle. He plays a clever little reverse pass behind him. Vivek Sagar Prasad and Mandeep Singh are bearing down on goal. However, neither can get on the end of the pass.
Q1, India 0-0 Germany: Another PC for Germany. Peillat is on the pitch and he will be on the first battery. Does not flick it with full power and that is because they were looking for a deflection. However, Constantin Staib cannot deflect it onto goal.
Q1, India 0-0 Germany: The first penalty corner of the match is won by Germany after Gurjant Singh shoulder barges into the back of Paul-Philipp Kaufmann. No Gonzalo Peillat for Germany for this one. The injection goes to Malte Hellwig who takes a touch before shooting. The ball loops up but Sreejesh is at hand to glove the ball away.
Q1, India 0-0 Germany: After a slow start, Germany twice come close to opening the scoring. Michel Struthoff goes for goal with a reverse hit. PR Sreejesh looked like he had it covered but Jarmanpreet Singh put his stick in the way of the ball which loops over the goal. The Germans then attack along the goalline but Sreejesh comes out and smothers the ball.
Q1, India 0-0 Germany: India get us started in London. Germany are back in action after a long time. They last played in the Olympic qualifier in January. Need to see if there are signs of rust in this German side.
India vs Germany: India wearing their away white and orange kit are the first to come out on the blue turf at the Lee Valley hockey stadium. Germany, in their all black kit, come out next.
India vs Germany, Craig Fulton: It’s consistency in back to back games which we want in the Olympics as well. We also want to give opportunities for other players in the squad.
