The 117-member Indian contingent, including seven reserve athletes, won a total of six medals at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. While shooting proved to be the country’s most successful sport with three bronze medals, hockey, wrestling, and athletics too saw India on the board.
Manu Bhaker became the first Indian to win two medals in a single edition of the Olympic Games, while Sarabjot Singh and Swapnil Kusale won medals on debut. Aman Sehrawat earned the tag of being the youngest Indian to win a medal in an individual event even as the men’s hockey team and Neeraj Chopra made it consecutive Olympic podiums.
At the end of the Games, a total of 84 different countries won medals, with India being placed at 71 on the overall medal tally list.
The United States once again topped the list with a total of 126 medals that included 40 gold, 44 silver and 42 bronze. China came in second with 40 gold, 27 silver and 24 bronze for a total of 91.
Japan was third with 45 medals – 20 gold, 12 silver and 13 bronze.
