The International Champions Cup came to life on Saturday with 10 of Europe's biggest clubs locking horns. While Real Madrid came over a late Chelsea comeback after going 3-0 up, Barcelona, Liverpool and Bayern Munich recorded easy wins over Celtic, AC Milan and Inter Milan.
Real Madrid 3-2 Chelsea
As many as 105,826 people came out to watch Champions League winners Real Madrid take on Chelsea in a friendly at the Michigan Stadium on Saturday. This was even though Real were not fielding star players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema. In their absence, it was left-back Marcelo who shined for his side, scoring two goals and setting up another one to put Real 3-0 ahead. Chelsea fought back via a brace from Eden Hazard, the second of which was scored in stoppage time, but it wasn't enough to beat the Spanish giants.
Celtic 1-3 Barcelona
Celtic went down 1-3 to Barcelona in Dublin in a warm-up game ahead of their crucial Champions League third-round game against Astana. Barcelona took the lead via a brilliant goal from Arda Turan after 10 minutes. Celtic equalised after a defensive blunder from Jose Antonio Martinez, but Efe Ambrose put a cross into his own net soon after. Munir Mohamed then made it 3-1 to secure the win.
Liverpool 2-0 AC Milan
Divock Origi and Roberto Firmino both scored for Liverpool in their 2-0 win over AC Milan in Santa Clara, California. Origi, who was playing for his club for the first time in the pre-season, had another goal before being ruled offside. Daniel Sturridge and Adam Lallana also could have scored, but they missed their chances.
PSG 4-0 Leicester City
Paris Saint-Germain continued with their impressive pre-season form as they beat English champions Leicester City 4-0, following wins over Inter Milan and Real Madrid. Edinson Cavani opened the scoring from the penalty spot, before Jonathan Ikone also joined him on the scoresheet in the first half. Lucas Moura and Odsonne Edouard completed the job with a goal each.
Inter Milan 1-4 Bayern Munich
American Julian Green scored a first-half hat-trick inside 35 minutes for Bayern Munich in their 4-1 thumping of Inter Milan in Charlotte. In the absence of Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller, Green was exceptional after being linked with a loan move away from the club. Franck Ribery scored the German champions' only other goal, as Inter had no response.
