Centuries from Ravichandran Ashwin and Wriddhiman Saha took India to 353 on Day 2 of the third Test against West Indies at St Lucia on Wednesday. At the close of play, West Indies were 107/1, having lost the wicket of Leon Johnson.
Having rescued India from a precarious 126/5 on Day 1, Ashwin and Saha carried on from where they left off, extending the lead. Ashwin was solid but Saha started playing more shots as the partnership kept on increasing. After lunch, both batsmen got their centuries and the partnership touched 213 before West Indies finally struck, Alzarri Joseph getting Saha caught behind for 104.
That led to a collapse as India lost their last four wickets for just 14 runs. Ashwin was the penultimate batsman dismissed for 118, providing a catch to Jermaine Blackwood as India folded for 353.
West Indies replied steadily and only lost the wicket of Leon Johnson, who was run-out on 23 with the score on 59. There were no further concerns for West Indies as Kraig Brathwaite scored a half-century. West Indies finished the day on 107/1, still trailing by 246 runs with nine wickets in hand.
Brief scores:
India 353 all out (Ravichandran Ashwin 118, Wriddhiman Saha 104, Miguel Cummins 3/54, Alzarri Joseph 3/69) lead West Indies 107/1 (Kraigg Brathwaite 53 not out, Bhuvneshwar Kumar 0/11) by 246 runs.
