Indian wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt appeared to have turned down the silver medal, which was upgraded from bronze, won at the 2012 London Olympics. Dutt's bronze was upgraded after a new doping test found that the original silver medalist, Besik Kudukhov of Russia, guilty of using banned substances. Kudukhov died in a car accident in 2013.
"Besik Kudukhov was a great wrestler," Dutt tweeted on Thursday. "Him failing a dope test after his death is sad. I respect him as a player. If it is possible, let the medal stay with him. It will be respectful for his family. For me, human compassion is paramount," he added.
