In what will surely be a major setback to Pep Guardiola's Manchester City, forward Sergio Aguero will miss next weekend's clash with Manchester United after being handed a three-match ban by the English Football Association. The Argentinian was found guilty of violent conduct after replays showed he elbowed West Ham United's Winston Reid last weekend.

The incident took place in the 76th minute of City's 3-1 win against West Ham United when Aguero and Reid contested for the ball. An independent FA panel had looked into the matter based on written submissions and video evidence. The FA had stated that retrospective action would be taken on Aguero for his offence. The Sky Blues had denied the charge, finding the punishment to be excessive.

Aguero will miss the mouthwatering derby against cross-town rivals, Manchester United, a league fixture against Bournemouth, and the third round of the League Cup match against Swansea City.
