In the end, Yogeshwar Dutt has to settle for silver as Togrul Asgarov of Azerbaijan, who won the men's 60 kg wrestling gold at London 2012, has not tested positive for banned substances. The United World Wrestling federation confirmed the development, putting to rest all the rumours and speculation that have been doing the rounds of Dutt’s silver medal being upgraded to gold.
“Contrary to news reports, 2012 Olympic gold medallist Togrul Asgarov has never been in violation of UWW’s anti-doping policy,” UWW, the governing body of world wrestling, confirmed on Twitter.
Dutt took the bronze medal at the 2012 London Games. In August, it was confirmed that silver medallist, the late wrestler Besik Kudukhov of Russia, had tested positive in a dope test and hence would have his medal stripped. So Dutt’s bronze was upgraded to silver. However, there was immediate speculation that the Indian was going to get the gold as rumours swirled about Asgarov's failing a dope test.
