Even before the Indian Paralympics athletes began their quest for a medal at Rio, the 19-member contingent, India’s largest till date, was left red-faced as the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) objected to the kits provided to them for the opening ceremony.
The blazers did not have the white strip of the Indian national flag, and did not carry the country’s name on the back, as per IPC protocol. This threatened the Indians' chance to be part of the opening ceremony, leaving Indian officials in a fix. Even the IPC logo was incorrect, as it had to be printed on a white background and not on the blue of India’s blazers.
According to PTI, the issue was resolved after the officials made the necessary changes to the Indian blazer and kit. The para-athletes are set to participate in the opening ceremony, the Sports ministry has claimed.
According to a ministry release: "After the inspection, IPC made some suggestions to India as well as other countries. The issues raised in respect of the ceremonial kit of the Indian Contingent have since been resolved. Necessary corrections have been made which have been duly approved by IPC. "
