Olympic bronze medallist Sakshi Malik steamrolled into the United World Wrestling rankings for the first time in her career, rising to fourth position in the women's 58 kg category, reported PTI. Malik had become the first Indian woman wrestler to win an Olympic medal last month in Rio de Janeiro.

Another Indian woman wrestler, Vinesh Phogat, jumped two places to 11th in the women's 48 kg category. Phogat was forced to retire hurt in the quarter-finals in the Olympics after sustaining a knee injury in her bout.

On the men's side, Sandeep Tomar and Bajrang Punia were the only Indians to be ranked in the top 20. Tomar had lost his opening bout of the Olympics and is currently in 15th position in the men's 57 kg category. Punia is ranked 18th in the men's 61 kg category.
