Chelsea FC's porous defense received a major setback as skipper John Terry was ruled of Saturday's Premier League tie against Liverpool. The London club announced on its website on Tuesday that Terry, who suffered a foot injury during Sunday's 2-2 draw against Swansea, will be out for at least 10 days.

Terry battled through pain towards the final minutes of the Swansea match after straining ligaments in his foot. Manager Antonio Conte had said that the 35-year-old defender would need medical assessment. Terry confirmed his absence from the side on his Instagram page, before being bullish about making a quick recovery to the side. "Absolutely gutted, but will be giving everything to get back playing," he wrote.

After last season's disastrous title defence, which saw the Blues finish a lowly 10th in the league, Conte looked for defensive cover all through the summer transfer window. Brazilian David Luiz was signed by the club for a second time in a deal that cost £34 million. Luiz, who sat on the bench over the weekend, is expected to start the game against Jurgen Klopp's side, who cruised to a thumping 4-1 win against defending champions Leicester City in their last game.
